Male Models and Too Many Frills
Love them or hate them! Jean
Paul Gaultier’s designs never lack entertaining theatrics – case in point, the
final look at his couture show this season, a layered menswear-inspired wedding
gown paired with an oversized top hat. Scratch that, Gaultier's entire lineup
was a case in point for that statement. The top hat tied into this season’s
1920s Jazz Age flapper-meets-futuristic over-sexed robot look – inspiration
points that we’ve seen from the designer before.
A number of the
looks were worn by male models – and they weren’t even always
menswear-inspired. Unfortunately, a good chunk of the collection veered towards
gimmicky and overly adorned, but there was much to love in the few more
streamlined pieces, notably a sharp shouldered long black coat and a black
v-neck jumper.
