Usually, The Oscars isn't a place where we see wild beauty or fashion,
but each awards season there are a group of women who step it up and show
something interesting. This year we saw everything from matchy-matchy emerald
green to pretty petal pinks and there was nary a boring look in sight. Here are
a few of our favorite looks from the night:
Best Overall - Jessica Chastain
With heavy lashes and shiny hair, Jessica Chastain's look typified
understated elegance. Her strawberry locks seemed to shimmer under the sunlight
and there was just enough color on her cheeks and lips to keep this look from
being dull.

Most Glamorous - Angelina Jolie
From the way she was vamping on the red carpet, Angelina knew
exactly what she was doing last night. She'll usually wear a bright lip or a
smoky eye, but worn together the look was pure, unrestricted glamour.

Best Hair - Berenice Bejo
We've seen a lot of braids on the red carpet in recent weeks and
while this look makes an impact, it's surprisingly easy to do. A simple braid
tucked into a smooth chignon is a look perfect for day or night.

Best Neutral Look - Gwyneth Paltrow
Surprisingly, very few celebrities chose the trendy neutral look for
the big night, but Gwyneth's clean, glowing skin and neutral tones worked
perfectly with her dramatic white dress. Also interesting, is that her hair,
which looks like it's been dramatically chopped at the chin from the front, is
actually in a low ponytail hanging down her back.

Best Statement - Viola Davis
Beyond the already interesting choice of matching her makeup to her
dress and accessories, Viola Davis' statement was her hair. It's not often we
see stars with their natural hair texture so this look was both bold and
refreshing.

Best Use of Color - Emma Stone
It's often hard to wear statement makeup with a dress such as this,
but Emma Stone's light wash of pink over the lid paired with a strong flick was
just enough to catch the eye.

Most Pretty - Michelle Williams
Between her pixie looks and her gamine charm, Michelle Williams is
bringing back pretty. Never over-glossed or too made up, Williams' pretty pink
lip and warm flush made her look youthful and fresh.

Most Bold - Rooney Mara
Even though we've seen this look on Rooney Mara dozens of times, it
still makes an impact amongst a sea of lip gloss and loose waves. Most notable
is that with the absence of jewelry, Mara's makeup acted as an accessory,
completing her look.

Best Skin - Rose Byrne
Dewy looking skin is hard to pull off, especially on camera, but
Rose Byrne's subtle glow was just enough to make a statement. Not too shimmery
or oily looking, her skin looked luminous and refreshed.

Best Bun: Shailene Woodley
A big bun can be hard to wear, but paired with the conservative
neckline of Shailene's dress, it was a great choice for the starlet.
