Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall 2012

Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture Fall 2012

Male Models and Too Many Frills

Love them or hate them! Jean Paul Gaultier’s designs never lack entertaining theatrics – case in point, the final look at his couture show this season, a layered menswear-inspired wedding gown paired with an oversized top hat. Scratch that, Gaultier's entire lineup was a case in point for that statement. The top hat tied into this season’s 1920s Jazz Age flapper-meets-futuristic over-sexed robot look – inspiration points that we’ve seen from the designer before.

A number of the looks were worn by male models – and they weren’t even always menswear-inspired. Unfortunately, a good chunk of the collection veered towards gimmicky and overly adorned, but there was much to love in the few more streamlined pieces, notably a sharp shouldered long black coat and a black v-neck jumper.
